I have been told that the first Saturday in October has been the date for the Bluff Park Art Show, Hoover, Alabama, for the past 52 years. So the 53rd Annual Bluff Park Art Show was held on the first Saturday of the month, October 1st, 2016, at Bluff Park in Hoover, Alabama. There were 145 artists, new and experienced, that were juried into the show. Show visitors had the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the artists as they viewed original fine art including paintings, jewelry, digital art, clay, glass, metal, textiles and more. Show visitors have come to expect exceptional art, innovative art techniques and a friendliness that is unique to the annual Bluff Park Art Show event. 

I was beyond excited to be a part of this show this year and it was so much more than I expected. It was such an honor to be included in this wonderful mix of exceptional artisans. One of the highlights of this show each year is the awarding of the cash awards, over $12,000. What a humbling experience to be selected to be among the winners of this year's show. My "Taking Flight" Great Blue Heron, won the Mills Pharmacy award. And if that wasn't enough, Robert Mills of Mills Pharmacy stopped by my booth after the awards. It was a pleasure to meet him and thank him personally for his generous donation. 

As an artist and photographer, there are times when you question whether or not you should continue - or at least I do. This event was an encouragement to me and it helped give me the desire to forge ahead and strive to be better and more creative in my future works. Just being around other artists lifts my spirits and brings joy to my heart. 

I loved being a part of the 53rd Bluff Park Art Show and plan to apply again next year. Thanks Bluff Park Art Association for being so hospitable and encouraging.
